Match Report
Jersey travelled to Harrow Borough, lying third in the Isthmian South-Central Division 1 after four wins and two defeats in their opening six league matches.
Jersey made five changes to the team that had lost heavily at Worthing on Tuesday. Daniel Jinadu, Jamie Watling, Toby Ritzema, Will Yates and Francis Lekimamati replacing Euan Van der Vliet, Jack Lumsden, Luke Watson, Adam Trotter and Jay Giles. Watson and Giles were amongst the substitutes along with Rai Dos Santos, James Sunley and Harry Mackenzie. Sunley returning after a year out with injury.
After an early Lenny Farhall goal Harrow had suffered their second league loss on Tuesday when they lost 1-4 at Hanworth Villa. They made seven changes with only Olumide Akinode, Reuben Collins, captain Charlie Malin and Farhall retaining their places in the starting team.
The European wide flight disruption caused by a cyber-attack gave the Bulls a terrible journey which delayed the kick-off by 30 minutes. Within a couple of minutes, they had a further set back when Lekimamati appeared to pull his left hamstring and had to be replaced by Giles with Fraser Barlow moving forward and Miguel Carvalho swapping flanks.
An impressive Harrow side then took full advantage with Lenny Farhall scoring a hat trick within 20 minutes. He was the beneficiary of Harrow’s wide men, notably Will Bailey, consistently beating their defenders and peppering the box with crosses.
The first goal came when Bailey on the left sideline swung a long diagonal ball to Reece Robins in the right corner of the penalty box. He beat the newly introduced Giles and crossed to the far post where Malin’s header from six yards brought a good parry out of Jinadu only for Farhall to tap in from a foot by the right post.
Jersey responded with a twenty-yard shot from Will Yates that whistled past the left post. Carvalho then rounded ‘keeper Harry King who had charged out of his area, but he was unable to find either Ritzema or Lorne Bickley in the centre with his cross. Yates broke away down the right shortly afterwards but Bickley was off balance as he tried to finish it off at the near post five yards out and his attempt ended up going wide of the far post.
Bailey was again the instigator for the second. He beat Jonny Le Quesne on the left and lifted the ball to the near post where it just eluded James Queree and fell to Farhall five yards out to toe poke a volley past Jinadu. Two minutes later it was 2 / 3three. Harry Tucker beat Bickley to a ball on the edge of the centre circle and Farhall picked up the loose ball. He passed to Robins to his right and set off forward to receive a delightfully weighted defence splitting return which gave him the time and space to pick his spot past Jinadu from fifteen yards. 3-0 after 19 minutes.
With the stuffing knocked out of them with less than a quarter of the match played Jersey began to hold their own and approaching the interval began to threaten themselves. Carvalho was usually the source and he had one shot cleared off the line whilst Bickley had a looping header disallowed in added time.
After the break both captains were cautioned in separate incidents, the second a cynical foul on Carvalho as he broke away. A flurry of substitutions followed in the ensuing twenty minutes with the introduction of Rai Dos Santos the most productive of them and he put a chance just wide of the right post.
Just as Jersey looked like they might pull one back Harrow added a fourth through substitute Lucas Miller after a jinking run and clever one-two with fellow substitute Gareth Chendlik. Two minutes later they would have matched Worthing’s nap hand
had not Jinadu pulled out a magnificent save from an Alfie Tucker curler destined for the top right-hand corner. In added time Dos Santos flashed a twenty-yard shot just over but it was to be a second blank in five days for the visitors and another chastening defeat.
