Match Report

Jersey entertained Camberley Town less than a month after visiting them when a solitary goal won a turgid match that will not otherwise live long in the memory.

After that Camberley had two wins and a draw against teams below them before 0-3 losses against top five teams Fleet Town and Redhill. They now lie 15th with an 8-9-15 41-56 record.

Jersey were without the suspended Toby Ritzema and Kieran Lester plus the injured Harry Curtis and Francis Lekimamati as well as James Queree and Adam Trotter who were out of the Island. Jonny Le Quesne took over the armband from Queree.

James Carr, Karl Hinds, Lorne Bickley and teenager Will Yates were added to the squad that had travelled to Abbey Rangers with Jay Giles, Joe Kilshaw and Hinds starting in place of Curtis, Queree and Trotter. Fraser Barlow moved from defensive to attacking duties.

Camberley made five changes to the team that started against Redhill last week. Ben Grummitt was between the sticks for the first time since mid-December, Luke Benton, Erim Dinctop, Mikey Burton and Masimba Bare all returned after missing that match. Making way were Dominic West, Tom Wensley, Joe Noakes, Stan Kyle and Sam Whitehead with only Kyle of those appearing on the bench.

Camberley took an early lead when a Josh Ewing through ball from the halfway line seemingly intended for Burton eluded him but Bare cut across beating McKay to the ball and nutmegging both the covering Le Quesne and the advancing Euan Van der

liet. Jersey suffered another early setback when McKay went down injured and had to be replaced by Sammy Sutcliffe.

Jersey gradually worked their way back into the game with Kurtis Guthrie volleying over, Barlow shooting wide left and Kilshaw having a shot blocked with the rebound being grabbed by Grummittt just before Hinds could finish it off.

The equaliser came when a long cross-field pass from Barlow picked out Carvalho on the right. He found Hinds who from the right byline cut the ball back to Kilshaw. He astutely took it on his right before transferring it to his left foot and found thebottom right corner. Before half time Josh Ewing shot straight at Van der Vliet before another Carvalho pass gave Le Quesne a chance but he miskicked his volley.

Jersey took the lead shortly after the interval when a Carvalho corner from the left found Luke Campbell and he headed down just inside the far post.

Midway through the half a Barlow cross from the left found Carvalho at the far post but he had to take on his left rather than his favoured right and volleyed it wide.

Substitute Carr provided the move of the match with a surging end to end run down the left channel which ended with his twenty-yard shot tipped over by Grummitt.

In the last few minutes Camberley twice came close to grabbing an equaliser. Bare hit a curling shot from just outside the penalty area. Starting out left it just went over the right angle of the goal. Two minutes later substitute Stan Kyle robbed Campbell on the right and centred to the unmarked Brad Passfield in the middle eight yards out. It was just too high for him and Jersey breathed a sigh of relief as his attempt looped well over the bar.
