Match Report
Bulls Bag 50th Goal In 5-Star Performance
Sol Solomon scored Jersey Bulls 50th goal of the season as they convincingly beat Dorking Wanderers Reserves.
The home side started brightly with Solomon playing a neat one two with the returning Karl Hinds before testing the visiting keeper Drew Churchwell in the early stages.
Adam Trotter set Fraser Barlow free in the 14th minute, with the attacker attempting an audacious lobbed effort, beating Churchwell, but the ball went inches over the bar.
The visitors had a chance to open the scoring against the run of play moments later when Trae Cook-Appiah raced past the Bulls defence with his electric pace but dragged his shot wide of Euan Van Der Vliet’s net.
However, the home side did take a deserved lead in the 26thminute when Luke Campbell bundled in his 7th of the season after the visitors didn’t deal with a dangerously delivered set-piece.
Both sides then had headed efforts through Cardwell for the Bulls and Pascall Sedgwick for Dorking, but both efforts came to nothing.
Wanderers’ star man Cook-Appiah charged through the Bulls defence again, but his shot was deflected wide on this occasion, as the winger kept threatening Van Der Vliet’s net.
Cook-Appiah then set up Dennis Asante, but Van Der Vliet was equal to the effort, as the visitors impressed under difficult weather conditions.
Solomon, who shone throughout, spotted Cardwell’s run and picked out the winger with a tremendous pass, and Cardwell had no issues tucking the ball past Churchwell to double Bulls’ lead on the stroke of half time.
HT: Bulls 2-0 Dorking Wanderers Reserves
Trotter, who controlled the middle of the park throughout, picked Hinds out with a silky flicked pass, but the league’s top scorer could only put his shot over the bar.
The Bulls got their third early in the second half, and arguably put the game to bed. Kamen Nafkha stole the ball back on the edge of the box and charged forward, crossing for Barlow who turned, and the ball ran through to Solomon, who calmly netted the home sides’ 50th goal of the season.
In the 56th minute Campbell headed back across goal to his nephew, Solomon, but the 18 year old could only head straight into Churchwell’s hands.
The visitors did have the ball in Van Der Vliet’s net after eye-catching play from Cook-Appiah and a neat finish from Asante, but it was disallowed for offside.
Substitute Daryl Wilson tested Churchwell, but the visiting keeper pulled off a fine save to push the ball over the bar.
In the 85th minute Jules Gabbiadini drove down the right and pulled the ball back to Barlow who tucked a first-time effort into the bottom corner of Churchwell’s net.
Barlow bagged his brace with another brilliant finish in stoppage time, putting the cherry on the top of another resounding victory for the Jersey side, making it 13 wins from 13 games and leaving them 10 clear at the top of the Combined Counties Division One table.
