Match Report
Jersey Bulls came from a goal down to beat Eversley & California 5-1 on Saturday in what was a testing game.
Karl Hinds bagged a brace, as well as singles from Daryl Wilson, Luke Campbell and Sol Solomon, as the home side claimed another three points.
It was the visitors who broke the deadlock in the 9th minute when George Marsh nodded in from close range after Ross McKernan had hit the post.
This was the first goal Bulls had conceded at Springfield, but the home side responded positively as Hinds and Solomon both saw their efforts go wide.
Gary Freeman’s men didn’t have wait much longer to equalise. Solomon drove down the right and pulled the ball back to Fraser Barlow, who’s shot was saved by Liam Vaughan, but he could only parry to Wilson, who tapped in.
Calum Hartin almost took advantage of a miscommunication between Campbell and goalkeeper Michael Martins, but the home side’s captain was their to head off the line.
Youngster Solomon continued to have a busy game, finding himself one on one with Vaughan, however, the attacker could only blaze his shot well over.
Ever-present Jay Giles then had a shot cleared off the line, whilst Jonny Le Quesne, playing his last game for two months, saw his effort fire over.
On the stroke of half time Bulls were given a golden chance to equalise from the spot after Solomon was brought down by Vaughan. Hinds, who had scored three previous penalties this season, stepped up and slotted the ball away calmly, giving Freeman’s men the half time lead.
HT: Bulls 2-1 Eversley & California.
The visitors’ main threat, McKernan had an ambitious effort go just wide as Eversley & California looked for an early equaliser.
Jules Gabbiadini, who has slotted in perfectly to the right back position, whipped in a beautiful ball, but Solomon could only head off target for the Bulls
It was on the hour mark when the Bulls gained breathing space. Giles put a threating ball into the box, and after Queree missed it at the near post, Campbell guided the ball into the net, much to the joy of home fans.
Substitute Harry Cardwell made an instant impact, delivering to the back post only for Solomon, who could have easily had a hattrick on the day, blasting his shot over the bar.
The starlet (18) did get his goal, and what a way to do it. Picking the ball just inside the oppositions half, he slalomed through the visiting defence like as if he was Lionel Messi, before rounding the keeper and slotting the ball into an empty net.
Hinds tried his best to get his name on the ‘Goal Of The Game’ list with his second, and 9th of the season. The playmaker spotted Vaughan off his line and saw his audacious effort loop in from distance, as Springfield looked on in awe.
In the end it was a pleasing result and a brilliant test for the Bulls, who remain seven points clear at the top of the Combined Counties Division One Table.
Bulls travel to A.F.C Hayes next Saturday as they look to keep up their fine form.
