Match Report

Jersey hosted Horley for their penultimate home game of the “regular” season before it divides into two after February. Horley were 6th with a 3-1-2 16-12 record and their results reflecting the positions now held by their various opponents.

Jersey welcomed back Ella Brennand, Sam Silva, Emily Le Page and Lauren Queree to the squad and they all started. Additionally, Coco Leonard who missed the previous match, was available along with sixteen year old Amy Guthrie who was in line for her debut. Making way for them were Natasha Keen, Rachael McCartan, Soraya Da Conceicao, Sofia Rodrigues, Charley Skinner and Alena Clyde-Smith.

Horley were a well organised youthful side that were difficult to break down but with little threat going forward so Jersey had a comfortable, if not convincing, victory. The opening goal came from a dink forward from Holly Sundby for Anita Tavares to run on to on the left. She kept her head and from near the penalty spot picked out the bottom right corner to give Horley’s excellent goalkeeper, Iris Baitup, no chance.

Tavares had various other rangy pot shots but failed to find the target and when she had a clearer chance Baitup did well to save at her feet. Silva hit the bar just after the half hour but Jersey went in only one up. A calming second goal arrived soon after the break when a left wing corner was played back to Leah Morris. She floated the ball to the far post where Tiffany Sundby headed home from a couple of yards out. Goalmouth incident was rare thereafter until Holly Sundby shot over when put clear deep into the lengthy added time.
