Match Report

Jersey elevated Aine Ruth and Soraya Da Conceicao from the bench to replace the unavailable Ella Brennand and Hannah Lynam. Lauren Queree, a substitute last week, was also away and returning to the bench were Ana Malta, Alena Clyde-Smith, Sophie Thornton and Lara Couvert. The youthful Meadow Sports team have three sets of twins in their squad, albeit one of the six was missing today because of injury.
The division is developing into a three-horse race with these two 100% teams leading Milford & Witley, who Jersey beat last week by three points. However, a Jersey win today would not guarantee top place if Milford won by a large margin and in so doing leapfrog both sides on goal difference.
Jersey attacked from the off and won an early corner on the left. Leah Morris took it short to Nastasha Keen and her cross hit defender Nicole D’Aloia on the back of the head at the far post and flew in from six yards after just thirty-three seconds.

Close inter play on the right led to the second goal after ten minutes. Morris, Anita Tavares and Holly Sundby were involved and eventually Sundby played a short ball through the right channel to Sofia Rodrigues. Rodrigues took it early and hit it with the outside of her left foot into the bottom right corner.

The third goal had similarities to the first in its build up. Morris took another left sided corner short to Keen but this time Keen played it back to Morris who had peeled away to her right. Morris’s cross to the far post was met with a cushioned header by Tiffany Sundby back across the face of the goal where Holly Sundby close in managed to force the ball past Jessie Nicholl’s desperate attempts to claw it away.

At this point it looked as though Jersey were heading for another high scoring win but the rest of the match was to be very different.
2 / 3Two minutes after the third goal Danielle Bradshaw on the edge of the box hit a woefully under strength back pass towards Chantelle Renouard in the Jersey goal. Striker Megan Higgins chased it down and although her first attempt hit the ‘keeper’s shins the ball fell nicely for her to walk in the rebound.
As play moved into added time Meadow Sports were awarded a free kick thirty-five yards out. The tall Caitlin Burnett lined it up and her long range shot over the diminutive 'keeper brought it back to 3-2 by the interval. Some thought it a fortunate goal but Burnett had previously gone close with a similar attempt.
After the break Jersey tightened up in the middle of the pitch but Meadow Sports looked the more likely to score and should have equalised five minutes in. Higgins crossed from the left byline but Naomi Aherne at the far post headed over from five yards with the goal gaping.
Another Jersey corner just before the hour eventually reached Tiffany Sundby at the far post but she was unable to re-direct her header to restore the two goal cushion.
The relative safety of the two goal margin was eventually gained twenty minutes later when Holly Sundby played player of the match Anita Tavares through the right channel. Tavares was at a relatively narrow angle but her strong cross shot was fumbled into her own net by Jessie Nicholl.

As it turned out the win did not put Jersey top as Milford & Witley beat Moseley Athletic 13-0 to take pole position. However, Jersey have now beaten both their close rivals in successive weeks. The next two weeks are reserved for cup ties
with league hostilities resuming on 23rd November v Horley Town at Springfield.
