Match Report

Jersey faced a watershed match. Their first away game and opposition that would give them a yardstick to measure their standard against as Milford, like Jersey, had a 100% record, having won all four of their league games. Jersey had had two weeks off whilst other clubs had generally had two cup tie weekends. Milford, near Godalming, had a grass pitch, utilising the outfield of the local cricket club.

Jersey made three changes to their starting team and two more on the bench. All the three new starters were debutants with ‘keeper Chantelle Renouard, Hannah Lynam and Sofia Rodrigues replacing Ana Malta, Emily Le Page and Sam Silva. Charley Skinner and Lauren Queree returned as substitutes taking the places of Coco Leonard and Sophie Thornton.
Jersey got off to the ideal start with skipper Holly Sundby converting a Leah Morris cross to give them the lead inside the opening ten minutes. Two more before half-time put them in a commanding position. A quickly taken Morris corner gave Natasha Keen the chance to cross which Ella Brennand headed in and that was quickly followed by player of the match Anita Tavares crossing for debutant Hannah Lynam to convert.
Shortly after the break Tavares picked up a ‘keeper clearance and returned it with interest from twenty yards. Into the last quarter of an hour Tavares provided Morris with the pass to score from long range which was quickly followed by Rodrigues setting up Tavares to round the ‘keeper for her second of the afternoon. Renouard’s clean sheet was spoilt two minutes from time when substitute Taylor Salton scored a consolation for Milford but debutant Rodrigues restored the six goal advantage when Tavares provided her third assist of the game just before the final whistle.
