Match Report

Teams stayed ends, Jersey kicked off attacking the Southern end 1.35.05

Jersey travelled to Reigate on Mothering Sunday for the first of their six fixtures in the contentious play-offs for promotion. The top seven from the first “half” of the season, which still had four matches left to play to decide the final qualifier, would contest for two promotion places but with all their previous points wiped. Teams would play each other at the opposite ground to where they first met, leaving Jersey with two home fixtures and four away in the play-offs. Jersey finished first with a 100% record from their 12 matches, Reigate will be fourth, fifth or sixth depending on the matches still to be played.

Reigate had been beaten 9-3 in early October, a comfortable victory in the end after Reigate had taken a very early 2-1 lead. Reigate’s three goals were notable in that Jersey only conceded eight in their twelve matches. Jersey had Tayah Vasse making her debut in goal and welcomed back Danielle Bradshaw, Aine Ruth and Emily Le Page who had all missed the preceding match against Cranleigh five weeks ago.Chantelle Renouard, Alena Clyde-Smith, Rachael McCartan. Sophie Thornton, Sofia Conceicao and Charley Skinner who all featured in that fixture did not travel. Reigate
included Anna Wooldridge and Phoebe Francis in their starting line up neither of whom had been in their squad at Springfield.

There was again a flurry of early goals. Anita Tavares put Jersey ahead, but Reigate equalised almost immediately before Leah Morris quickly restored the Jersey lead. They consolidated this before half time with further goals from Holly Sundby and Danielle Bradshaw, the latter a header from a corner. Tavares completed her hat-trick just after the hour before Reigate scored with a penalty, given for hand ball, and again just before time as they scored three against Jersey again. Tavares gave the score a better reflection of proceedings when she added her fourth in added time.
