AFC StonehamTeams stayed ends, Stoneham kicked off attacking the far (South-East) end 7.46.30
Jersey met A.F.C. Stoneham for one of their longest trips, albeit probably the nearest as the “crow flies”. Stoneham are based at the Hampshire F.A. complex at Eastleigh just south of the M27. They have had a very successful few years in the Wessex League, losing in the play-offs in 2024 and 2025 before decisively winning it in 2026 as well as carrying off the F.A. Vase at Wembley. This season the higher level has proved a struggle and they lay 21st without a league win 0-2-4 5-13
Jersey made one change to the team that beat Ascot 4-2 on Saturday. Sammy Henia-Kamau being promoted from the bench to replace the unavailable Toby Ritzema. James Carr, Darryl Mvalo and Harry Mackenzie were substitutes in place of Henia-Kamau, Seaney McColgan and the suspended Harry Curtis.
Stoneham made wholesale changes with only three (Duarte Martins, Jake Thomson and Arty Kerton) retaining their places in the starting line up from the team that lost 0-2 against Egham on Saturday. Jim Orvis was promoted to captain the side.
A quiet opening quarter of an hour was ended when a deflection off a defender put Henia-Kamau free on the left. He tried to dummy the ‘keeper but failed and the opportunity was snuffed out.
Jersey took the lead just before the half hour. Jarma Mohamed spread the ball wide on the right for Casey Nixon to run on to. His low cross towards James Sunley ten yards out was intercepted by Kevin Atangana but his strong toe poke took it past his own ‘keeper.
Henia-Kamau brought a good save out of Ross Casey with a powerful cross shot that brought the first corner of the match. Casey thwarted Bickley too and the striker put the rebound over. Stoneham had their first sight of goal just before the break, but Orvis volleyed over.
After the interval Sunley and Nixon both continued causing problems for the home defence. However, Jersey’s best chance came just after the hour when a flick on from Bickley saw Henia-Kamau bearing down on Casey, but Bickley then manhandled defender Brad Johnson out of the way so play had to be brought back.
Stoneham came more into the game and midway through the half Kyle Tooze, just transferred from Shaftesbury, outpaced Jack Lumsden to a through ball only to hit the right post. With nine minutes left Duarte Martins, the hosts most dangerous player, outjumped Jonny Le Quesne only to see his header graze the wrong side of the left post. Four minutes later Duarte outjumped Jamie Watling with his header going just over.
Just when it looked as though Stoneham might grab a point Jersey scored a second. Luke Watson played a crossfield ball to Bickley on the edge of the box. He played a one-two with substitute Fraser Barlow and got a shot away that did not look particularly well struck but it found the bottom left corner with Casey possibly unsighted.
