Jersey returned to the scene of their first away fixture. Just over seven years ago, they defeated Bedfont’s tenants F.C., Deportivo Galicia, 6-0 and two seasons ago beat tonight’s hosts 2-0 in the F.A. Vase. They have also played twice at Bedfont F.C. just over the fence behind the North-East goal.

Bedfont Sports won promotion from the Combined Counties Premier to the Isthmian in 2018 but were relegated back in 2023 to the Northern section. They lost in the play-offs in 2024 but won through them in 2025. Last season they finished 15th in the Isthmian and this season lie 13th with a 2-2-3 9-13 record. Nearly half those goals occurred in Wednesday’s night’s 3-6 loss at high flying Kingstonian.

Jersey kept the side that drew at Winchester with the sole change being Jack Lumsden replacing Harry Mackenzie as a substitute.

Bedfont’s George Frise, dismissed against Kingstonian, took over the armband from Josh Eatwell, although the latter remained in the starting line up. Oliver Davison and Tyrique Tekasala were elevated from the bench and were joined in the first XI by James Barnett. They replaced Sean Ndinga-Basaye, Guy Hollis and Ben Portbury, the latter now on the bench. Oliver Peck and Alfie Essex were added to the substitutes with Mihai-Andrei Chiriac losing his place there. Jersey took an early lead with an excellent goal. Luke Watson floated a free kick from the left midfield towards Lorne Bickley in the right channel. It eluded him but rebounded back to him off Toby Ritzema and Bickley spun on it and rifled a cross shot into the top left corner before Tyler Tobin in the home goal could move.

Bedfont surprisingly equalised. A free kick was cleared to the edge the area where James Barnett poked an attempt goalwards. It might have lacked power but was well

placed and was heading to the bottom left corner. Euan Van der Vliet managed to push it away, but Tommy O’Neill was quickest to the rebound to put it past the prostrate ‘keeper.

The lead was soon restored. A Jay Giles corner on the right was headed at the back post by Jamie Watling. It was scrambled away from the six yard line to Jarma Mohamed twenty yards out and his side footed half volley went through the crowded goalmouth and into the bottom left corner.

Just after the half hour there were chances for both sides. A good through ball put Dan Williams clear, he sidestepped Van der Vliet, but Watling was back to clear off the line. Bickley immediately had a golden opportunity at the other end, picking up on a defensive error he looked to pick his spot from twelve yards, only to lift the ball just over the bar.

Before the interval Sammy Henia-Kamau skipped away down the left and delivered a good cross to the far post where the unmarked Ritzema glanced it far too finely.

Despite Jersey dominating Bedfont equalised again. A quick counter-attack saw Barnett find Williams with a ball that bisected the central defenders. From a dozen yards he put it away with aplomb into the bottom right corner.

Another quick move in added time almost saw Bedfont take the lead. Barnett, under pressure from defenders, was unable to get a strong shot away. Therefore, an entertaining half ended all square despite Jersey having had most of the possession.

The timbre of the match changed after the interval and the third quarter of the match belonged to the hosts but this time it was Jersey who took the lead against the run of play. A Jonny Le Quesne cross from the right was half cleared to Henia-Kamau who brought if down on his thigh and hit it as it dropped into the bottom left corner. As the last ten minutes began Bickley went close again with a swerving shot from the right channel that hit the outside of the right post. Jersey resisted an onslaught in the last few minutes for a win that reflected the overall match, but certainly not the second half where they were under the cosh for long periods.
