Teams stayed ends, Jersey kicked off attacking the Town end 8.00.30

Jersey faced Moneyfields with whom they had fought out a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth in mid August. Having defeated the third placed team on Saturday they now met the fourth (6-3-3 20-13) who were on a seven match undefeated run.

Jersey’s team showed only one change with Harry Curtis replacing the suspended Jay Giles as a substitute, but Jonny Le Quesne reclaimed the captain’s armband from Luke Watson.

Moneyfields also had a stable side and made just two changes to the team that had won 1-0 at A.F.C. Stoneham on Saturday. Harrison Brook came in for Alfie Bridgman who moved to the bench alongside Callum Smart who ousted Lewis Beale from the squad.

Moneyfields started well but it was Jersey who took an early lead when a right wing move led to Toby Ritzema putting in a low cross which James Sunley met on the edge of the box. Hit shot deflected off the back of a defender to leave Malachi Osei-Owusu with no chance of saving it.

Ritzema also set up Lorne Bickley who blasted over and Ritzema put a header from a Sammy Henia-Kamau cross into the arms of Osei-Owusu. Lawrence Copper sliced a Moneyfields shot wide and Jack Farrier did not exercise Euan Van der Vliet unduly with his attempt. At the other end Henia-Kamau and Bickley gave Osei-Owusu routine saves.

After the interval Sam Ashton had his header easily saved by Van der Vliet but did better with a curler from the edge of the box at the midpoint. Van der Vliet having to go full length to his left to push it away.

Jersey thought they had scored a clincher in the second minute of added time. Luke Watson’s corner was headed home by Jamie Watling but the senior assistant, from beyond the half way line, deemed the ball had not been in the quadrant and the corner had to be re-taken.

As the lengthy added time drew to a close Moneyfields skipper Tom Cain was dismissed. His first touch from a cross field pass was poor and as he attempted to retrieve the situation he dived in studs up at full stretch on Fraser Barlow who was advancing fast on the loose ball.
