Jersey maintained their perfect start in Surrey Division One with another clear cut win, this time overcoming both the windy conditions and their opponents, South Park

Returning to an 11 a side game Jersey effectively kept an unchanged side with Emily Le Page and Samantha Silva-Pinto restored to the starters. There were two changes on the bench with substitute goalkeeper Chantelle Renouard, included for the first time, and Aine Ruth replacing Lauren Trachy-Queree and Charley Skinner.

This was a better guide to Jersey’s prospects as South Park were the strongest opponents met to date. They had beaten both Horley Town and Cranleigh before going down 2-4 to second placed Meadow Park last week.

The start was frenetic, and late arrivals had to be convinced it was already 2-2 after only nine minutes. Carly Jackson lobbed Ana Malta from twenty yards after two minutes with Emily Le Page, who cut inside from the right and hit a rising cross shot equalising a minute later.

South Park immediately regained the lead when Katie Butts ran on to a through ball and tucked home a rebound after Malta had saved her initial attempt. It was all of five minutes before the next goal when Leah Morris was put clear and kept composed to steer the ball home to bring the scores level again. That could have been 3-3 as both sides missed chances in the five minutes between the goals.

Jersey found the left side netting twice before Morris put the hosts ahead for the first time just after the half hour. Shrugging off two tackles she hit the top left corner. Two minutes later player of the match Anita Tavares made it 4-2. She initially looked to have missed the opportunity from the right channel but she worked her away along the 18 yard line before turning and shooting powerfully into the roof of the net.

The fitter and quicker Jersey outfit strode away after the interval with early Natasha Keen corners leading to goals for Samantha Silva-Pinto on the right and Tiffany Sundby on the left. Silva-Pinto added another midway through the half before South Park pulled one back when Malta seemingly had an attack of colour blindness. With red shirts to both her left and right her attempted clearance went down the middle to the blue shirted Emily Coutinho who astutely lobbed the stranded ‘keeper.

Numerous other chances were spurned or well saved before Holly Muirhead-Sundby eventually scored the goal she had been threatening all afternoon as full time approached. There was still time for Leah Morris for complete her hat-trick as Jersey fell just short of reaching double figures.

With Meadow Sports having no fixture Jersey overtook them on goal difference to move into second place in the fledging table. With cup competitions for the next two weeks Jersey’s next fixture is in three weeks time and it could not be tougher – their first away game and it is at table toppers Milford and Witley.
