Isthmian League South Central Division
KingstonianJersey met Kingstonian, a club with a proud history. Amateur Cup winners and in the Conference at the turn of the century, winning the F.A. Trophy in 1999 and 2000. However, since then they have lost possession of their newly built ground to their tenants and were relegated from the Conference in 2001 and then the Isthmian Premier in 2005. They regained their Premier spot in 2009 but came back down again in 2024. Since then, they have finished 5th (lost in the play-offs) and 13th.
They are now ground sharing at Ashford Town.
This season Kingstonian started strongly with three wins and two draws but have only picked up one point from their last three matches and lay in 11th position with a 3-3-2 21-19 record.
For the fourth time this season a wedding meant a depleted Jersey team was fielded. This time it was skipper James Queree’s nuptials in Barcelona with Jonny Le Quesne, Jay Giles and Lorne Bickley all in attendance. Manager Elliot Powell was at another wedding, also in Barcelona. In addition, Jack Lumsden was injured on Tuesday at A.F.C. Stoneham and Harry Curtis was still suspended.
Luke Watson took on the captaincy and Toby Ritzema was available again. James Carr, Fraser Barlow and Joe Kilshaw all moved up from the bench. Dan Burton, Luke Lister and Seaney McColgan were added as substitutes. Jarma Mohamed was playing in an unaccustomed right back position.
Kingstonian made three changes to the side that conceded an added time equaliser at Westfield on Tuesday. Reuben Duncan, Jordan Gallagher and Dennis Kelmendi were promoted from the bench with Darryl Siaw and Sean O’Brien going in the other direction. Rocky Williams, the scorer on Tuesday, was out injured with the last spot on the bench going to Szymon Ruiz, the substitute goalkeeper.
The hosts started brightly and Stan Flaherty curled a shot from the edge of the box just wide of the left post with Euan Van der Vliet beaten. Jersey worked their way back into the game with Fraser Barlow dragging his shot wide and Sammy Henia-Kamau shooting straight at Zaki Oualah. At the mid point of the half Oualah pulled off a stunning save to fingertip over a Henia-Kamau twenty-five yarder destined for the top right corner.
With the interval approaching Casey Nixon had Oualah diving to his right but then opened the scoring in the last minute. Henia-Kamau jinked down the left and put in a low cross that Nixon beat Jamie Splatt to, and he then shot across Oualah.
After the break Kingstonian almost equalised courtesy of Jamie Watling but Van der Vliet was sharp enough to put the deflection over. Henia-Kamau went just wide before some Jamie Sunley magic paved the way for the second goal. Sunley wriggled past three men in the left corner and although his cross was blocked the rebound fell to Henia-Kamau who smashed a cross shot into the top right corner.
With quarter of an hour to go Van der Vliet saved well at the second attempt from an Eddie Simon close in header before substitute Darry Mvalo squandered three opportunities in the closing minutes with the last hitting the outside of the right post.
